Australian strings to visit ANU

This week the School of Music will host the Australian String Quartet, the first time that the quartet has visited Canberra in many years.

Professor Peter Tregear, Head of ANU School of Music, is looking forward to hearing what he says is the country’s leading chamber music ensemble.

“It is acknowledged both nationally and internationally as a quartet of superior technical refinement and artistry,” he says.

But more than that, the excitement in the halls of the music school centres around the fact that students will also be enhancing their performance skills through a masterclass with the Quartet.

“Masterclasses provide an opportunity for aspiring young musicians to meet and learn from their ‘heroes’, to meet those who have achieved the the career goals to which they aspire,” says Professor Tregear.

“Above all, of course, they provide a forum for knowledge exchange between acknowledged masters and protégées.  They give students a chance to learn from those practicing their art at the highest international standard.”

The Australian String Quartet will be at ANU this week, culminating in a performance on Friday evening.
